Sixth Aedicula of the Pantheon Basilica in Rome “Saint Anne and the Madonna”

This beautifully draped sculpture shows us Saint Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary, with an emaciated face and relatively austere features, watching over her daughter.

On the other hand, and almost in contrast, the Virgin is represented with particularly delicate features while she shows her wisdom and obedience.

Lorenzo Ottoni created numerous works for the churches of Rome, including a “Saint Taddeo” for the central nave of the Basilica of Saint John Lateran.
