Fifth Aedicula of the Pantheon Basilica in Rome “Saint Rasio”

Bernardino Cametti, Saint Rasio, fifth Aedicula of the Pantheon in Rome, Italy
Saint Rasio, fifth Aedicula
This beautiful statue, whose marble is carved as if it were lace, was executed at the request of Pope Clement XI.

It was ordered at the same time as that of Saint Anastasius of the fourth aedicula to commemorate the fact that relics of Christian martyrs were found during the work related to the construction of the main altar.

Saint Rasio is represented holding the palm of martyrdom and extending his hand towards the rotunda’s centre as if leaving his shrine.
